The Graduate and The Taft Hotel

Our story begins with Benjamin, the unemployed fresh college graduate, standing in the dark, right outside the Taft Hotel. He is frustrated and struggling to find direction in his life. He needs a diversion, something to escape. He had a fight with his father earlier in the night and jumped into his car.  He drove around and ended up here, at the hotel. He picks up his phone and dials the number.

Mrs. Robinson is sitting home alone, restless tonight, a bit edgy. She pours herself a glass of wine and undresses to take a long hot bath. The phone rings.

She answers, “Hello.”

A familiar voice stammers, “Ummm, Oh, I don’t know quite how to put this is,” and then a very soft nervous giggle.

She acknowledges him and tries to make him more comfortable by stating his name, “Benjamin” in a soft sultry voice.

Benjamin says, “Look, I was thinking about that time after the party.” His voice trails off without completing his thought.  He doesn’t need to say the words, Mrs. Robinson understands the meaning.

Mrs. Robinson knows why he is calling, “Where are you?”

Poor timid Benjamin is so nervous that he doesn’t answer her question. He knows how to get into a college girl’s panties, but what about a cougar, like Mrs. Robinson? She should be off-limits. She is a friend of the family and she is married, but there was that conversation after the party. He is so nervous that he doesn’t answer her question.

Benjamin blurts out, “I was wondering if I could buy you a drink or something.”

Mrs. Robinson, a sexy cougar, emphatically asks, “Where ARE You?”

Benjamin, “ummm, the Taft Hotel.”

Mrs. Robinson asks, “Did you get a room?”

Benjamin, “NOOOOO, it is pretty late, if you would rather…”

“Give me an hour,” Mrs. Robinson interrupts Benjamin.

Poor Benjamin is so nervous. He is not sure he heard her correctly, “What?”

“I’ll be here in an hour,” and Mrs. Robinson hangs up. She springs up out of her chair to get ready for her evening with young Benjamin, a boy half her age.

Inexperienced Benjamin is breathing heavy. He is sweating profusely. He looks at his phone and then at the front door of the Taft Hotel.  He can’t believe his good fortune, the alluring Mrs. Robinson will soon be joining him. Benjamin gathers up his courage, walks into the hotel and up to the front desk.

Benjamin is a shy nervous boy about to have sex with the beautiful cougar, Mrs. Robinson.
